Synopsis
A couple go to visit the family home that he just inherited. It’s a big old place, nice but pretty old. There’s a picture of Eli’s grandfather hanging on the wall. After a bit of unpacking, they’re all moved in. “It’s like it’s trapped in time,” she comments.
He seems unhappy to be there, but this was his idea. She talks him into explaining why he didn’t return home more. He explains about the family curse. “There was a thing that would come for us,” he explains. “It always finds us.” He follows this up with, “and you’re family now.”
She’s clearly upset by his story. He sees something while tuning his guitar, and that’s gonna leave a mark. Suddenly, he starts feeling physically sick. She starts hearing noises in the dark, and it soon becomes obvious that there is something living in the house…
Commentary
It’s a beautiful old house, and it doesn’t look creepy at all. This just shows you that not every bad thing has to happen in an old haunted-looking house. The creature here is really good, and the final scene is neat, but there’s not a lot of explanation for the curse. The problem with family curses is that you can marry into them.
