Norman the mortician has a one-way conversation with a cadaver. He asks her why she was found at the bottom of a lake. He puts makeup on her face as the old-timey music plays. Norman proclaims “Viola! You’re Done,” but she still looks pretty awful.
Norman starts stroking her hair, and the music stops. He leans in and kisses her. He then wipes off the lipstick and glues her mouth shut. He closes her up in the storage shelf and walks away.
On the other hand, maybe not everything is as it seems.
Commentary
The dim lighting and creepy music add a lot to the atmosphere of this story. I’m not sure that Norman really did anything worthy of this fate, but he got it anyway. The actual ending is somewhat ambiguous, but still very worthwhile.
