Synopsis

A man walks toward a cabin that is surrounded by glass walls. At first, he appears to be a burglar, but he doesn’t go inside. The renter of the house, Scarlett, is at the gym, playing tennis. She eventually arrives at the house, dragging a suitcase behind her. The man knocks on the window and says his nave is David. He also claims he’s here to give her the WiFi password and show her around. She lets him in but soon has second thoughts about doing so. He points out the phone and then leaves, walking down the long driveway in the snow. Scarlett soon learns that she has no cell service at the house.

She goes to play tennis again the next day, and after she returns home to rest, a car pulls up and just sits there. The next day, the snow starts piling up, and Scarlett still can’t use her phone. She starts getting creeped out. David returns in his car, and Scarlett notices the strange car this time.

The power goes out. There’s a knock at the door, and David says the roads are closed and he needs to spend the night…

Where is this going? Nowhere good.

Commentary

It’s not really clear where this is going until the end. Scarlett seems afraid for several scenes prior to the ending, but she doesn’t actually see David until the last scene, so it’s not quite clear why she was so upset. Just general paranoia about being alone in the exposed cabin, I have to assume.

I know whenever I see people living in such open, exposed house, I wonder how they do it. I always close the curtains in any room I’m in. Too many stalker movies may be to blame for that.

David is a weird character, but not unlike a lot of people you probably know in real life. Neither is Scarlett. That’s what makes this little film effective.
